5. Centos Installation with RAID 1

5.1. Basic Information

We will be installing centos 7.6 with RAID 1 partitioning. For installing with RAID 1 we require minimum 2 disks because data will be mirrored on both drives to provide redundancy. If one disk fails, data will be taken from second disk.

We will use following parameters in this process -

Device Type - RAID

RAID level - 1

File system - ext4

5.2. Steps for Installation

For installing, we need centos 7.6 iso in a bootable pendive. Here are the steps for installing with RAID 1 partition -

5.2.1. Step 1:

Boot the bootable pendrive into the system, select Install Centos 7 option. Hit Enter


5.2.2. Step 2:

Select your preferred language. Click next


5.2.3. Step 3:

Select Timezone from map.


5.2.4. Step 4:

Click on Installation Destination to choose 2 disk here, select them and click on ‘I will Configure partitioning’ for manual partitioning as per our aim. Click Done


5.2.5. Step 5:

In the next window, remove partitons if present by clicking on partition & then on - sign. Then click on ‘click here to create them automatically’. After clicking, 4 partitions will be created - /boot, / , swap & /home.


5.2.6. Step 6:

  • Remove /home partition

To change each partition configuration, select /boot –> Device Type –> RAID, RAID Level –> RAID 1, File System –> ext4, Desired Capacity –> 1024 MiB , then click on Update settings


5.2.7. Step 7:

Select / –> Device Type –> RAID, RAID level –> RAID 1, File System –> ext4, Desired Capacity –> 500 GiB, then click on Update settings.


5.2.8. Step 8:

Select swap, change ‘Device Type’ to RAID, change ‘RAID Level’ to RAID1, Desirec Capacity –> 32 GiB, then click on Update settings.

  • Then click on Done button

5.2.9. Step 9:

Click Done to format and click on Accept Changes


5.2.10. Step 10:



Change Hostname

  • For first node, use hcictrl01.enclouden.com
  • For second node, use hcictrl02.enclouden.com
  • For third node, use hcictrl03.enclouden.com
  • After changing click Apply

5.2.11. Step 12:

Continue with installation steps to set root password or to create new user.


5.2.12. Step 13:

Reboot the system after installation is completed


5.3. Output

To check the result after installtion of RAID 1 configuration, use below command -

# df -hP
